The beginning of something new in Brickell Key.

We stopped by the Mandarin Oriental Miami on its final day and captured it just before the implosion.

Sharing a couple of perspectives from @adventureroadtrippers and @designcleo that documented the moment from different angles.

And just like that, the site clears for what’s next. The renderings show a completely new vision taking shape here, one that will redefine this stretch of the skyline.

Miami was trying to figure out what it wanted to be… and this showed up.

The Bacardi Tower, 1963. Clean, sharp, unapologetically modern. One of Miami’s first true International Style office buildings, designed by Enrique Gutiérrez when Bacardi was busy reinventing itself after leaving Cuba.
Right in the heart of Edgewater, now one of the most electric places to live in Miami. New towers, new energy… and this still holds its ground without trying too hard.

But the part that stops you isn’t the glass box.
It’s the skin.

Over 28,000 hand-painted ceramic tiles by Brazilian artist Francisco Brennand, wrapping the tower in these surreal, tropical blue murals that shift with the light. Not art hung on a building, art built into it.
Mid-century modern, but make it Miami.

What’s even better… it didn’t get frozen in time. Today it’s home to YoungArts, still active, still evolving, still being used the way good architecture should be.
Not preserved like a relic.

Maintained, programmed, alive.

We see the intention. You feel the impact.
