Miami’s Museum Guide
We have been wanting to put this list of Miami museums together for so long and thank The Miami Herald for beating us to it. This list keeps growing as we expand our cultural horizons, it’s an exiting time to live in Miami. Don’t ever say there’s nothing to do in Miami! 🙂
Also check with each museum for annual or family memberships which make it really worthwile if you visit these several times per year, plus it helps the organization. We are avid PAMM goers, the family membership is perfect.
Bakehouse Art Complex
Fine Art institution founded in 1986. Used to be an industrial bakery and resident artists get space to exhibit their works. Admission is free, it’s located in Wynwood at 561 NW 32 St, and it’s open daily from noon-5 PM.
Bass Museum of Art
Fine Art Museum recently renovated by architect David Gauld. Exhibits focus on contemporary art. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students with ID, children under 5 are free. It’s located in Miami Beach at 2100 Collins Ave and open Wednesday-Sunday from 10 AM – 5 PM.
Institute of Contemporary Art Miami (ICA)
Dedicated to exhibiting works of established and emerging artists in the heart of Miami’s Design District. Admission is free (but should reserve tickets online ahead of time). It’s located at 61 NE 41 St and open Tuesday – Sunday from 11 AM – 7 PM
Lowe Art Museum University of Miami
Miami’s first art museum from my alma matter. It has a permanent collection of five thousand years and has a dedicated pavilion for contemporary glass and studio arts. Admission is $12.50 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, and free to children under 12, UM students, faculty and staff. It’s located at 1301 Standford Dr in Coral Gables and open Tuesday -Saturday from 10 AM – 4 PM and noon – 4 PM on Sunday.
The Margulies Collection at The Warehouse
Private art collection owned by local real estate developer Martin Z. Margulies. It’s located in Wynwood at 591 NW 27th St. Admission is $10, free for students with Florida ID, all other students are $5. It’s open Wed – Saturday 11- 4 PM and closed May to September when they install new art annually.
Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MoCA)
Local and international art exhibits. There’s a monthly “Jazz at MoCA” outdoor concert at 8 PM on the last Friday of each month. It’s located at 770 NE 125 St. Admission is $10 for adults, $3 for seniors and students with ID and open Tuesday – Friday 10 AM – 5 PM and Sat – Sunday 11 AM – 5 PM
Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM)
Herzog & De Meuron designed building overlooking Biscayne Bay. It has a permanent collection with focus on international art of the 20th and 21st centuries that reflect Miami’s cosmopolitan makeup. It’s located at 1103 Biscayne Blvd. Admission is $16 for adults, $12 for students with ID, seniors and youth 7-18 yrs old and open Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 AM – 6 PM, closed Wednesday, Thursdays 10 AM – 9 PM.
The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum
Founded in 1977 with programming that attracts national and international visitors with exhibits and educational programs. Located at FIU’s Modesto Maidique Campus at 10975 SW 17th St. Admission is Free and it’s open Tues – Saturday 10 AM – 5 PM and noon – 5 PM on Sunday.
Rubell Family Collection
Private collection housed in a former drug and weapons confiscation center in Wynwood. Exhibits include established and unknown artists. Located at 95 NW 29 St. Admission is $10 for Adults, $5 for seniors and students with ID and free to for military and under 18. It’s open on Wed – Saturday from 10 AM – 5:30 PM from Dec 12-June 29
The Wolfsonian – FIU
Permanent and rotating exhibitions of vast collection of American and European objects and art produced during the height of the modern age (1850’s – 1950’s). It’s located in Miami Beach at 1001 Washington Ave. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors, students with ID and children 6-12, free to kids under 6, students, faculty and staff of State University System of Florida.
World Erotic Art Museum
Private collection of internationally renowned antiques collector Naomi Wilzig. Sensual but also historical and educational exhibits. Located in Miami Beach at 1205 Washington Ave. Admission is $20 for adults 18 and older only. Open Monday-Thursday 11 AM – 10 PM and Friday – Sunday from 11 AM – midnight.
Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science
Children’s museum located in downtown Miami’s Museum park with 500,000-gallon aquarium, planetarium, permanent interactive exhibits and special exhibition gallery that hosts traveling exhibitions throughout the year. It’s located at 1101 Biscayne Blvd. It’s $27.95 for adults online, $18.95 for kids 3-11 online, free for kids under 2. Open daily from 9:30 AM – 6 PM.
Miami Children’s Museum
One of the 10 largest children’s museums in the country, located on Watson Island at 980 MacArthur Causeway. Admission is $20 and it’s open daily from 10 AM – 6 PM.
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens
Historical museum built in 1916 and originally the winter home of industrialist James Deering who wanted the estate to resemble a 400-year old Italian Villa. Architecture, antiques, decorative arts, gardens, something for everyone. It’s located at 3251 South Miami Avenue. Admission is $22 for adults, $16 for seniors, $15 for ages 13-17, $10 for ages 6-10, free for 5 and under. Open daily from 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM and closed Tuesdays.
Gold Coast Railroad Museum
Collection of more than 40 passenger cars, freight cars, locomotives and railway equipment. Located at 12450 SW 152 St. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for ages 2-12. Open Monday-Friday 10 AM – 4 PM, Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM – 4 PM.

HistoryMiami
Founded in 1940, it is a Smithsonian affiliate, the largest history museum in Florida and gathers, interprets and presents the history of Miami and greater South Florida region as a cultural crossroads of the Americas. Located at 101 W. Flagler St in Phillip Johson designed building. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students with ID, $5 for ages 6-12 and children under 6 are free. It’s open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 AM – 5 PM, Sunday from noon – 5 PM and closed on Mondays.
Holocaust Memorial
Memorial created in park-like setting in Miami Beach and includes brief history of World War II. It’s located at 1933-1945 Meridian Ave, admission is free and it’s open daily from 9:30 AM – 10 PM.

Jewish Museum of Florida
Only museum dedicated to telling the story of more than 250 years of Florida Jewish history, arts and culture. It’s located at 301 Washington Ave. Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, $24 for families and free admission on Saturday. Open Tuesday – Sunday 10 AM – 5 PM and closed on Mondays.
Wings Over Miami Air Museum
Established in 2001 by four military and classic plane enthusiasts. Functions as an educational, family-oriented tribute to veterans, aviators and aircraft history. Located in Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport at 14710 SW 128 St. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors, $6 children 4-12
Miami Beach Botanical Garden
2.6 acres of botanical gardens in the heart of Miami Beach with orchids, bromeliads, tropical specimens and Japanese Garden. Admission is free and it’s located at 2000 Convention Center Dr. Open Tuesday-Sunday from 9 AM – 5 PM and closed on Mondays.
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden
One of my favorites! 83-acre living museum of tropical plants and wildlife. Has an exotic butterfly exhibit and hosts events throughout the year. It’s located at 10901 Old Cutler Rd. Admission is $25 for adults, $18 for seniors, $12 for children 6-17.
