Miamism Fridays – Goodbye Beautiful Banyan

This week was a sad one for our family, our beautiful banyan tree that I took so much pride in, was ruined by a passing storm.  I know I usually feature someone’s photo on our Miamism Fridays series, but I wanted to pay tribute to our tree.  Don’t roll your eyes at me, this tree was one of the reasons we bought our house.  We spent thousands of dollars trimming it to preserve its majesty and had to finally take it down.  This same photo will appear in this weeks “Miami through my iPhone” Sunpost Column with the following excerpt:

REMINDER
Mother Nature has a funny way of reminding us who’s boss.  One day a child is innocently swinging from a rope swing and the next day a quick storm snaps the same grandiose banyan like a feeble twig.   Cruel reminder that she is in control.  This Miami Shores tree will really be missed.
