2023 Miami Shores Home for The Holidays Walking Tour by Heidi Hewes WCA
A Miami Shores tradition is back!! For the first time since 2019 homeowners opened their beautiful residences for a walking tour with entertainment, including wine and cheese, homemade cookies, sparkling cider, coffee and live music!
Organized by The Heidi Hewes Chapter of the Woman’s Cancer Association of the University of Miami, the 29th anniversary of The Home for The Holidays Walking Tour was last night in Miami Shores!
The best part that all proceeds benefit grants for cancer research and education at the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Miller School of Medicine.
I have had the honor of donating home renderings for the organization for years and this year was no different. The drawings are used not only for the program that seconds as a ticket, but also gifted to the homeowners who graciously agree to open their homes for such a great cause. It was a sold out event and hats go off to all the volunteers that put this event together.
About Heidi Hewes WCA
The Woman’s Cancer Association was founded in 1959 through the University of Miami Medical School. To date, the WCA has raised over twelve million dollars to help fund programs at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Miller School of Medicine. These contributions fund grants to researchers, early detection training, as well as major equipment and building purchases. Who was Heidi? Heidi Ann Hewes was born and raised in Miami Shores. In the fall of her senior year of high school, she was diagnosed with melanoma. Despite her illness she remained an active member at Edison High School as senior class treasurer, a staff member of her yearbook, co-captain of the cheerleading squad, and a member of the National Honor Society. She died in 1971 at the age of 17. Members of the Heidi Hewes Chapter are proud to raise money in Heidi’s memory to help the fight against cancer. For the last sixty years the Woman’s Cancer Association of the University of Miami has supported cancer research, patient welfare, and cancer education. The devotion, teamwork and generosity of community members like you are how we continue to grow and support the WCA.
