Miami Shores Unity Day 2008

Miami Shores had its annual Unity Day celebration yesterday, March 1, 2008 and we had a blast. To think that this event gets bigger and better every year and the community spirit is truly amazing.

Unity Day is sponsored by the Miami Shores Mayor’s Tast Force and it includes all kinds of rides, food and events as well as local businesses who sponsor small booths with give-aways, prizes and games. There was a live band, face painting and all kinds of demonstrations like break dancing, ballet, gymnastics and karate.

The Miami Shores Police Department also put on a pretty impressive show – from their K-9 training to a motorcycle course.

Miami Shores Public Works came up with a brilliant idea called “touch a truck”, where kids were allowed to climb trucks, tractors, back-hoes and other equipment – talk about creative!
The video will give you a taste of Unity Day and maybe entice you to join us next year. The event is held the first week of March, so be on the lookout.

I actually volunteered at The Heidi Hewes Chapter of the WCA of UM‘s booth this year and gave away candy, goodies to the kids and lemonade. The day was glorious and we really could not have asked for better weather.
